DeWitt Enterprise

DeWitt Enterprise, affectionately known as the home of the “Secret Bookshop,” is a Colorado-based business specializing in historical and collectible materials located in Fountain. With a small brick-and-mortar shop in Fountain, Colorado (open by appointment), they offer a curated selection of books—used, new, local author, and signed editions—along with directories, ephemera, Western Americana, maps, atlases, and more. They also provide free book searches and reasonably priced historical research services.

Bob and Dorothy, the founders, have been active in Huerfano County since 1996 and are deeply invested in the local community. They were drawn to Walsenburg Mercantile for its variety of vendors, food options, lodging, and the vibrant sense of community. Their presence at the Mercantile allows them to share their passion for Colorado history with residents and visitors alike.

DeWitt Enterprise was born out of a personal love for Colorado history. Starting in the 1990s, Bob developed a serious habit of collecting books about Colorado—covering all eras, locations, and subjects. When duplicates began accumulating, he turned his passion into a business in 2002, sharing his extensive collection with others. At Walsenburg Mercantile, visitors can browse and purchase books for reading, reference, or collecting, enjoying a thoughtfully curated selection that celebrates the rich history of the state.
