Colorado Crunch

J.J. and Ashley Hansen launched Colorado Crunch after picking up their first freeze dryer at Big R on June 19, 2023, with one goal: to bring delicious crunchy treats to Huerfano County. Riding the nationwide craze for freeze-dried candy, the couple quickly became a local favorite, offering a variety of treats at area farmers’ markets enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike.

Both J.J. and Ashley work for the La Veta School District—J.J. teaches middle school English and several music classes, including guitar, piano, show choir, and performing arts, while Ashley serves as assistant to the superintendent. Together, they also grow a large variety of microgreens, sold at farmers’ markets and served at local restaurants through their venture, Black Bear Gardens. Whether you’re craving a sweet treat, fresh microgreens, or both, Colorado Crunch and Black Bear Gardens offer something for everyone.
